![]() I recently recognized McDaniel’s Shelley Ensor as a “Local Hero,” for her inclusive and dynamic leadership of the McDaniel College Gospel Choir. One example is found at McDaniel College of Westminster, Maryland, in the heart of Carroll County. ![]() I know that every institution of higher education had to innovate and adapt just to get their students safely through the last several years of the COVID-19 pandemic. They reach out to underserved communities. Q: How do you see these schools innovating?Ī: They partner with local hospitals, NIH, NASA, NOAA, and every manner of local business from hotels and restaurants to law firms and architects. It’s a true honor to be able to advocate for these schools in Congress. One of the other independent colleges operating within the 14 th District, the Central School of Practical Nursing, plays a critical role in training highly skilled nurses, ensuring that Ohio will be prepared to meet the challenges posed by the nation-wide healthcare professional shortage. Institutions like Hiram College and Lake Erie College are educating the next generation of America’s leaders, ensuring young people have the skills they need to meet the challenges of the 21 st century head on. Q: What contributions are independent colleges making in your district?Ī: Independent colleges across Ohio’s 14 th District are positively impacting the lives of those who call Northeast Ohio home. Our independent colleges and universities help us meet significant educational needs in our community and contribute on a daily basis to the economic, cultural and intellectual vitality of our region. Q: Why did you decide to join the Congressional Independent Colleges Caucus?Ī: I joined the Congressional Independent Colleges Caucus so I can keep track of the myriad ways we can use federal policy to support independent colleges and universities throughout my District and across the nation. He is a member of the Congressional Independent Colleges Caucus. Raskin is a graduate of Harvard University and Harvard Law School. ![]() He has authored several books, including The Washington Post best-seller Overruling Democracy: The Supreme Court Versus the American People and the highly-acclaimed We the Students: Supreme Court Cases For and About America’s Students. Previously he was a professor of constitutional law at American University’s Washington College of Law for more than 25 years. Raskin was a three-term state senator in Maryland, where he also served as the Senate Majority Whip. Prior to his election to in Congress, Rep. Raskin also serves as vice chair of the House Administration Committee, chairman of the Oversight Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, and vice chair of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution. ![]() He is a new member of the House Committee on Rules. He is a member of the House Judiciary Committee, the Committee on Oversight and Reform, and the Committee on House Administration.
